While rebuilding the Health Centre on the main street remains an option for the HSE, they say the original site would not be suitable for both GP and enhanced primary care services in the future.

GP and Primary Care services may not return to their original home in Ballygar following a major fire at the health centre three years ago.

One of the buildings on site was gutted, while another received severe smoke damage in the fire on the 23rd of February. 2021.

Ballinasloe area Councillor Evelyn Parsons has called on the Saolta Hospital Group to provide an update on the demolition of the fire damaged building and the use of the remaining facility.

In response the HSE have stated that while rebuilding the Health Centre on the main street remains an option, the Hospital Group are of the opinion that the original site would not be suitable for both GP and enhanced primary care services in relation to car parking availability.

The HSE have committed to looking at measures to tidy up the site, improving the façade and work towards a final decision on HSE accommodation for the community.

Works have been previously carried out to secure and tidy the site, with Community Healthcare West confirming the building will continue to be monitored.
