HSE apologises over death of woman and baby in 2019 freak tragedy

The tragedy took place in 2019 at Cork University Maternity Hospital.

The HSE has apologised in relation to the death of a woman and her newborn child in a freak tragedy in Cork.

Marie Downey was found dead on the floor of her room in Cork University Maternity Hospital in March 2019.

It's believed she suffered a seizure, and her son was found partially trapped underneath her and died later.

An apology was issued by the HSE and the hospital at their inquest today.
