A local Muintir na Tire development officer is urging those who feel unsafe in their home to get a personal alarm.
The message comes following an aggravated burglary at the home of a 73 year old man in Sligo, who is now in a critical condition in hospital.
Anyone over the age of 65 is eligible for a grant for the purchasing of the safety device, which once activated will alert a contact of your choice that you are in need of assistance.

Development Officer for Leitrim, Sligo, Cavan and Monaghan Vanessa Clarke hopes neighbours will come together and set up a community alert system in conjunction with Muinitr na Tire.
She says people should report any suspicious activity immediately to the Gardai.
