They'll go on display digitally next Wednesday.

Detailed records about Longford Town going back 400 years will be available to the public for the first time next week.

The Pakenham Papers are part of the family archive held at Tullynally Castle in Castlepollard where they now live.

The family gave permission in recent years for the papers to be digitised and they've now been put tighter in the Longford archive in a project involving the County Council Library Services, and Longford Historical Society.

The unveiling of the project takes place on this day next week at Longford Library ay half past seven.

County Library Archivist Martin Morris says local people will now be able to see more of their history.

''A lot of archives that have a local nature, Packenham and otherwise, they contain place names and information about localities which we would not otherwise have. So certainly anyone who's interested in the names of different parts of the town will be able to hopefully garner new information from them. A lot of towns would have had an owner who was a major influence and the prime mover in the town's development, but in some cases, the papers of that particular family may be lost or maybe inaccessible.''
