HIQA has praised operations at a Longford care facility for people with disabilities in a newly released inspection report.

The Health Information and Quality Authority attended Esker Gardens Care centre for an unannounced inspection in March.

The centre is designed for up to four residents and provides care to residents with physical, neurological and sensory impairments and residents with mental health needs.

According to it's brief, Esker Gardens operates as integrated model of care that meets both social and medical needs of its residents.

HIQA inspectors inspected the service in March, with officials describing that the centre met residents’ individual needs, was person-centred and was designed to support the individuality and personal preferences of each resident.

Esker Garden saw full compliance in 13 out of 16 areas with substantial compliance noted in three areas.

The report found that some improvements were required in staff training, the admissions policy and some aspects of risk management documentation.

The centre, run by Gateway Community Care Limited, has submitted a full action plan to address the issues raised in the inspection report.
