A senior health professor has suggested the government may look to implement county by county Covid restrictions after lockdown where there is a significant drop

A senior health professor has suggested the government may look to implement county by county Covid restrictions after lockdown where there is a significant drop in cases.

278 cases of Covid have been confirmed in County Cavan in the last two weeks, with 144 in Roscommon, 128 in Monaghan, 76 in Longford and just 22 in Leitrim.

Cavan remains the county with the highest Covid incident rate per 100,000 at 364- compared to Leitrim which is the lowest at 68.7.

NPHET is meeting currently to review the progress that's been made to suppress the virus since new restrictions were brought in.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, Anthony Staines, who is  a professor of Health Systems at DCU believes that after the lockdown ends in early December, counties may be put on a different level of lockdown depending on their circumstances
