The original application was refused by Westmeath County Council, with local planners branding the out of town development as an adhoc, piecemeal development.

A well known discount store has overturned the refusal of planning permission for their Athlone store.
CORA-JIO trading as Mr Price had sought retention of permission for the change of use of a former warehouse building in Cornamaddy Athlone.
The application sought the retention to use the warehouse as a shop including staff offices, a canteen and changes to the external finish of the building.

The original application was refused by Westmeath County Council, with local planners branding the out of town development as an adhoc, piecemeal development.
That refusal was appealed to the higher planning authority with An Bord Pleanála granting the application with 8 conditions attached.
