The Longford doctor says those with colds should try not to socialize.

Common sense must be used when visiting family and friends over Christmas when it comes to illness.

That's the warning from Longford GP Paul Trueick, who says winter time and the increase of indoor gatherings, mean respitory diseases can spread more rapidly.

The HSE has notified the public over an increase in Covid, RSV and the Flu, with health experts advising people insure their vaccinations are up to date.

Dr Trueick says that while it's important to get out over Christmas, those of us with symptoms such as sore throats, coughs or fevers should not socialize.

Speaking to Shannonside FM News, The Longford Medic has also advised people who are immunocomprised or recovering from serious injuries or procedures to be cautious over the holiday season.
