Gardaí across the Shannonside Northern Sound Region are urging the public to be aware of a new complex phone scam active in the area.
Members of the public are receiving calls purporting to be from a Department of Justice or Attorney General official on an authentic looking phone number.
The scammer accuses the victim of having their PPS number linked to money laundering, arrest warrants and other criminal activities.
The victim is then urged to speak with an agent to provide details and financial information in order to resolve the situation leading to the persons private data or bank details being stolen.
Local Gardaí are strongly advising the public not to engage with these callers and to hang up if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of the call.
