Gardaí are urging the public to be aware of a new email based scam spreading across the Shannonside region.
In this scam, the victim receives an email claiming to be from Gardaí, with official logos and language, claiming that the recipient has become involved in a child pornography investigation.
The email, which features a fake image of the Garda Commissioners signature then asks the victim for a payment to ensure the details are not spread public and their information shared.

Gardaí in Athlone are issuing the warning to the public following reports from those who have been targeted locally.
