Gardaí say efforts to detect incidents of dangerous driving have been helped by new technology. It comes as speeding enforcements trebled in the Roscommon, Longford and Mayo Division last year. The Irish Independent reports the number of motorists caught driving over the speed limit around the country was almost 169 thousand - a 23 per cent increase on the previous year.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris had previously called on non-roads unit Gardaí to spend thirty minutes per shift tackling speeding. Sergeant Stephen McDonagh who's with the Roscommon Roads Policing Unit says investment has also helped:
