A Gardai was injured in the incident which occurred around 4pm on Monday afternoon in Longford town.

Gardai have been praised for their quick response and calm handling of a high-speed chase situation in a busy housing estate in Longford town

A man in his 30s, and who is from the Cavan area, remains in hospital in Tullamore with what have been described as serious injuries following the incident on Monday afternoon in the Ardnacassa Avenue area.

The car the man was driving crashed into a wall just outside Longford Women's Link after he was pursued by Gardai having failed to stop when requested on the Ballinalee road at around 4pm yesterday.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any information in relation to this incident to come forward to them. In particular, anyone who may have been in the Ardnacassa, Ard Aoibhinn (Ardeevan) and Ballinalee Road areas of Longford Town between 4.00 - 4.30pm.

Any persons with mobile phone or CCTV footage or road users who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to Gardaí at Longford 043 335 0570 , the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
