Local Gardai are reporting a rise in the number of people being targeted by scam callers or bogus tradesmen in the last number of weeks.
Investigations are ongoing into a number of alleged incidents in recent weeks where pensioners were scammed out of several thousand euro acorss the country.
Gardai are urging people to take extra precautions such as only opening doors to people they know and trust, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to their local garda station.

Sgt Mick Walsh is acting Crime prevention officer for the Roscommon-Longford Mayo garda district,.
He told the Joe Finnegan show that people should try and resist any pressure to pay for services up front.
