It's hoped that more consultation can take place on plans to pedestrianise part of the centre of Carrick on Shannon.

The local authority announced earlier this week that it has put its plans to make Main Street to the Clock tower traffic free at weekends on hold, pending the conclusion of considerations on the project.

Local businessman Ray Gannon believes that retailers need to have access to parking spaces for potential shoppers on Saturday, but it would be workable on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

He says that the public realm works need to be finished and shops need to get back to business before anyone can fully discuss the way forward:
