A highly-respected former Longford county councillor will be laid to rest later today. Seamus Finnan, passed away at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar on Sunday surrounded by his family. The late Mr Finnan enjoyed a lengthy career as part of Longford County Council. He served on the local authority for over 30 years from 1967 to 1999.
He also contested three General Elections for Fine Gael in the Longford-Westmeath Constituency. A farmer, he served as Chairperson of the County Animal Health Committee. Seamus' Mass of the Resurrection takes place this morning in St Mel’s Cathedral at 11am. Burial will follow in Ballymacormack cemetery.
