Funding boost for several historical sites in Shannonside region

Community Monuments across the Shannonside region are to be grant-aided to the tune of almost €350,000.

The community Monuments Fund supports the conservation, maintenance, protection and promotion of local monuments and historic sites.

The projects to be funded locally include Ballintober Castle in Roscommon, the Abbeyshrule Abbey Town House in Longford, and St Mogue's Abbey in Rossinver which have been allocated €85,000 each.

Other local projects which are to be funded in this latest round include the Church Ruin at Clondra, which is to get €26,000, and Elphin Windmill which has been allocated €30,000.

Almost €18,000 is being given for work at Ardkieran Cemetery, Oran.
