AIB will make 70 of its 170 branches cashless this autumn, as it claims demand for cash services has dropped and the cost of security has risen.

Four AIB branches in the Shannonside region are to transition to completely cashless services over the coming months.

70 AIB branches nationwide will make the move by October, with ATMs and cheque services moving elsewhere.

It's part of a new digital banking strategy spurred on by the bank's claim that cash demand is falling.
