Former midlands broadcaster to run in European Elections

He worked for RTE for 27 years before retiring in 2021 as Midlands Correspondent for the broadcaster.

Former RTE midlands correspondent Ciaran Mullooly is set to run for Independent Ireland in the European elections, Shannonside FM understands.

It's understood talks have recently taken place between Mr Mullooly and the newly formed party and that an official announcement will be made in the coming days.

Roscommon-Galway Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice is a member of the party, which has two other deputies - Michael Collins and Richard O'Donoghue.

Mr Mullooly is set to run in the Midlands-Northwest constituency.

He lives in Ballyleague and is originally from Lanesboro.

He worked for RTE for 27 years before announcing his retirement in 2021, and currently works for Longford Tourism after a job with Roscommon Leader for three years.
