It has been confirmed that the Fleadh Cheoil is returning to Mullingar next year.

The announcement was made following a meeting of the ard-chomhairle at Cultúrlann na hÉireann in Monkstown, Co Dublin today.

Mullingar hosted the Fleadh earlier this summer, welcoming in the region of 500,000 visitors to the town.

The festival also generates 50 million euros to the local economy.

Wexford and Belfast had made applications to host the event next year but the Westmeath town were chosen to host the music event in 2023..

"It has been a great privilege to host this fantastic event and showcase Ireland's Hidden Heartlands to a global audience," said Cathaoirleach of the Fleadh Executive Committee Joe Connaire.

"Today’s news is a testament to the Comhaltas volunteer committee, with the support of Westmeath County Council, and the passion that was collectively brought to make this year’s Fleadh a resounding success and an unforgettable one," he added.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is set to take place in Mullingar from the 6th to 14th of August in 2023.
