Five young people from the Shannonside region have been awarded prestigious third level scholarships

The Naughton Foundation Scholarships are worth €20,000 while the students' former schools also receive a cash prize for helping the teenagers' development.

The County Roscommon winner, Emily Gleeson, a former student of Scoil Mhuire Strokestown, has accepted a place studying Science at University College Dublin.

The County Leitrim winner, David Seery, a former student of St Clare's Comprehensive School, has accepted a place studying Engineering at University College Dublin.

Rory Kilgarriff, a former student of Marist College has accepted a place at University College Dublin studying Engineering and Sinead Clarke, formerly of Castlepollard Community College has accepted a place studying Engineering at Dublin City University.

The County Longford winner, Shane Hanley, a former student of Mercy Secondary School has accepted a place studying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at University of Limerick.
