Party Leader Micheal Collins TD has spoken of his delight of Deputy Fitzmaurice's decision to join the organisation, saying his integrity and knowledge, combined with his experience in national politics, makes him a fantastic addition to the party.

A Roscommon Galway TD has confirmed he is to join one of Ireland's newest political parties; Independent Ireland. Local TD Michael Fitzmaurice has been discussing the move over the last year with Independent TDs Michael Collins and Richard O’Donoghue. Set up in late 2023 by the two Munster TD's, the party bills itself as dedicated to shaping an Ireland that prioritises the well being of individuals, families and communities. Deputy Fitzmaurice says he's been examining the political landscape over the last 12 months, stating he was going to set-up a party or leave politics.

According to a statement to Shannonside FM News, the move has followed extensive negotiations with both Deputies Collins and O'Donoghue. The Independent Deputy has confirmed that Independent Ireland will be contesting upcoming elections with detailed election manifestos due to be released soon.
