The first President of the new Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest has been announced this morning.
Professor Vincent Cunnane, outgoing president of Limerick Institute of Technology, will take up the new role when the TUI is established on the first of October.
The announcement was made this morning by Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris who says Professor Cunnane's vast experience makes him perfectly positioned to lead the new institution.

Following an application in 2020, Athlone Institute of Technology and Limerick IT sought a designation as a technological university, with the decision on the formation of the new TUI taking place in May 2021.
