The ceremony will take place in the Hodson Bay Hotel later today.

Three local towns are hoping for success today at the annual .IE digital town awards in Athlone.

The accolades 'shine a light' on local community projects and everyday champions that demonstrated digital thinking and innovation for the betterment of local people, local services, and society.

The Maria Edgeworth Centre in Edgeworthstown is represented in the digital tourism category while Ballinasloe has been nominated in the digital business section.

Athlone has been given the nod in the newcomer and rising star category following the commencement of a digital TV station for the polish community.

The ceremony will take place in the Hodson Bay Hotel later today and national director of the awards Oonagh McCutcheon is commending all projects shortlisted.

'I'm delighted to say now in year three, we've had double the number of entries and the quality is through the roof.
