A local government MEP says there is no appetite in the party for an early General Election. Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh believes the leadership change in her party does not mean an election is needed. Simon Harris is due to take the reins from Leo Varadkar next week after the Dáil's Easter break, with the Fine Gael leadership confirmed last week.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, MEP Walsh says that nobody would benefit from a national election ahead of time. The former Rose of Tralee was also asked if she's concerned over the number of Fine Gael and other Government TDs that will not contest the next year's election:
