Fibre broadband network launched for Longford town centre

The launch marks a €4 million investment.

A major new broadband network is being launched for Longford town centre.

The network was officially launched by Minister for State for Local Government and Planning, and Longford-Westmeath TD, Peter Burke in the Longford Arms Hotel this morning. .

Over 4,000 premises are set to benefit form the plan which is built on the ESB electricity infrastructure,

Some of the first areas in Longford town that can avail of SIRO's gigabit broadband are Dublin Street, Chapel Lane, Ballymahon Street, College Park, Canal Close, Harbour View, Fairgreen View, Farneyhoogan, Railway Meadow, and Western Park.

''We're going to cover 4000 premises over 2022. With about half of them available from next month. So it's a huge improvement in terms of potential for the town. So we have speeds of a gigabit. So that's 25 times faster than what you would get on average in Ireland. So it's an incredible opportunity for Longford town.''
