'Festival feeling' at Ireland West Airport as travel restrictions ease

The airport is hoping to see its runway much busier in the coming days as European flights resume

There was a festive atmosphere at Knock Airport in Mayo with the easing of travel restrictions.

Only flights to and from a few UK destinations are back on stream in Knock as yet, but Donal Healy, who's Head of Marketing for the airport says a lot of families were reuniting there this morning.

He says they hope to bring back several more flights over the coming weeks, and some new ones to Italy starting this autumn…

Dublin airport says it could take over three years for business to return to normal.

Over 22,000 people are expected to travel through the facility today as non-essential travel resumes for those with a digital Covid cert.

While up significantly on recent figures, it’s far less than the 116,000 passengers who used the airport on this day in 2019.
