Extra funding to be made available for domestic violence support groups

The extra funding comes to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Domestic violence services in the Shannonside Northern Sound region are to benefit from increased funding from government.

445,000 euro in funding has been announced for 18 services throughout the country which help victims of domestic violence, rape and other crimes.

Roscommon Safe Link, Longford Women's Link, Sligo based Domestic Violence Advocacy Services and Tearmann Services in county Monaghan will all be eligible for funding for additional emergency services.

Westmeath Support Service Against Domestic Abuse will also qualify to apply to help provide a helpline for victims.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee says the extra allocations are to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
