Plans have been lodges with Longford County Council for the extension of planning permission for a solar farm at a well known former factory site in the county.

In 2018 Fisherstown Property Holdings Ltd received planning permission for the construction of a solar farm on site with a power generation target of four mega watts.

The plans would see photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames along with the associated power infrastructure.

Longford planners had approved the plans with 17 conditions attached, including that no ground work take place within 20 metres of the Shannon and that extensive screening between the development and neighbouring homes be constructed.

The site is also earmarked for further energy development after Ion Renewables Limited were awarded permission for the construction of a significant battery energy storage installation.
