Bishop Doran believes no one should decide on another's entitlement to receive the sacrament

The sacrament of holy communion should be available to all Catholics according to a local Bishop.

Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran believes that many people in different familial situations such as divorcees or single parents may have felt unwelcome to receive communion.

He stated this weekend during mass in Knock, that no catholic has 'any business in classifying any group of people as unworthy' of receiving communion.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show today, Bishop Doran says that the choice to receive communion should be down to the person themselves and no one else.

There are people out there who are reefing the tax man, their neighbours or who are out there pushing drugs.

These are very things as well. I'm not suggesting we should be casual of the invitation to holy communion.

what I'm saying is that as Christians, one of the challenges we face is to get rid of the attitude of entitlement whereby we think we're home and dry and we think other people are not worthy
