Ciaran Mullooly announced his candidacy for June's European Elections over the weekend.

A former RTE broadcaster turned MEP hopeful has described his campaign to become a member of the European Parliament as one rooted in rural representation. Ciaran Mullooly announced his candidacy for June's European Elections over the weekend, throwing his hat in the ring as a member of the Independent Ireland party. Roscommon-Galway Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice is a member of the party, which has two other deputies - Michael Collins and Richard O'Donoghue.

The former Midlands Correspondent with the state broadcaster, Mullooly has since worked with Roscommon LEADER and currently is working for Longford County Council as a Tourism Activator. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show today, Ciaran Mullooly says should he be successful, he will not be bound by a party whip when it comes to voting and decision making.
