Plans were approved despite local protests lodged against the planning permission.

Planning permission has been granted for a new telecom mast in Roscommon.

The plans from Eircom Limited, trading as Eir, call for the construction of a 21 metre monopole mast holding antennae, dishes and telecommunication equipment at the Eir Exchange on Donamon.

The application includes the removal of a 15 metre mast and its replacement with the new structure.

Plans were approved despite local protests that claimed the mast would be too close residential homes and would be too visible in the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, in Carrick On Shannon, plans have been lodged for the replacement of a 30 metre lattice mast with a 33 metre structure together with antennas, remote radio units, dishes, cable ladder and gantry poles.

The plans come from On Tower Limited and will be decided on in August.
