Driver tests positive for drugs after travelling at 181 km an hour in Roscommon

A number of garda checkpoints were set up across the country on last Friday as part of National Slowdown Day

A person will appear in court in the coming weeks after they were found to be doing 80 kilometres over the speed limit at a checkpoint in Roscommon on Friday.

They also tested positive for drug use.

The Roscommon/Longford Roads Policing unit detected the car to be travelling at 181 kilometres an hour in a 100 kilometre speed zone on last Friday.

A roadside oral fluid test was also carried out and the driver tested positive for cannabis.

The driver was arrested at the scene and a court appearance will follow.
