A local publican has said proposed legislation around pub opening hours is being driven by the night club sector. Larry Brennan, Chairman of the Roscommon branch of the Licensed Vintners' Federation, said extended opening hours would make little difference in rural Ireland.

The Roscommon Town publican said it would make it even more difficult for customers to get home safely. Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Mr Brennan said many publicans would be happier with the current situation:
