Disadvantaged students from the Shannonside region attending third level institutions are to receive extra support for IT equipment. It's part of a new nationwide

Disadvantaged students from the Shannonside region attending third level institutions are to receive extra support for IT equipment.

It's part of a new nationwide fund for student devices worth 15 million announced by Minister, Simon Harris.

Athlone IT is being awarded over €272,000 to provide additional support.

The allocations to Educations Training Board's are also included in the package with Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education Training Board to receive €263,000; Longford and Westmeath Education Training Board is to get €145,500 and Galway and Roscommon Education Training Board to provide €326,000 for its students.

Students from the region in higher education institutions experiencing exceptional financial need can apply for support through their local access office.
