Daughter of Ballinasloe man sentenced for rape and abuse welcomes DPP appeal

The DPP is to appeal the sentence handed down to a Ballinasloe father who pleaded guilty to raping and abusing his daughter.

Aimee Foley says she takes a serious amount of comfort from the appeal.

Her father Michael O'Donoghue - of Colmanstown, Ballinasloe, Co Galway - pleaded guilty to raping and abusing her last year and was sentenced to five years in prison.

Aimee spoke out when she was 18 and reported the abuse to gardai.
