Longford Senator Micheal Carrigy has welcomed the Higher Education Minister's announcement that the date has been set for the establishment of the Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest.
It'll become the third technological university in the country from October 1st of this year.
Athlone and Limerick Institutes of Technology will become the Technological University of the Shannon from that date.

The ballinalee native has said this Technological University will drive regional development and socio-economic progression and will facilitate local and regional higher education access and also course choice.
Senator Carrigy says this is fantastic news for students and families in Longford and Westmeath.
