The Dáil has heard of the importance of post offices and other services in the Shannonside region. Postmasters previously shared a pot of €30 million in funding in 2022 over three years to help save them from closure.
17 post offices closed in counties Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon between 2015 and 2025. Longford-Westmeath TD Micheál Carrigy, who's the postmaster in Ballinalee, believes post offices have a role to play:
