The outbreak was first identified last week.

Over a dozen residents have tested positive for Covid 19 at a Longford nursing home.

Laurel Lodge has confirmed that it is dealing with a small outbreak of the virus and that visiting restrictions are now in place.

Families of residents were informed last Friday that testing of all staff and residents was underway after the presence of Covid 19 was detected at the nursing home.

In correspondence seen by Shannonside Northern Sound, the centre for older persons has confirmed that a further four staff members and thirteen residents tested positive after swab results from Sunday and Monday.

Symptoms have been described as being relatively mild among the positive cases and the nursing home is following public health advice.

Those who tested positive last week are said to be 'doing well' with the majority through halfway in their 14 self-isolation period.

All visiting has been suspended except for those on critical or compassionate grounds and people are encouraged to contact loved ones via telephone and where possible, window visits.

The nursing home says that they expect Public health will arrange further swabbing in the next week or so and they will maintain contact with families in the interim.
