Covid levels double across hospitals in the Shannonside region

While the number of positive patients in local hospitals is still low compared to earlier this year, health officials are urging the public to be mindful.

Covid levels in local hospitals have almost doubled over the last week.

New figures from the HSE show 38 people in hospitals across the Shannonside region receiving treatment with or for the virus, compared to 22 this day last week.

University Hospital Galway has the highest number of people in Covid wards today at 19, compared to just 8 last week.

That's followed by Sligo University Hospital and Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore, where 6 covid patients are currently admitted in each facility.

This time last week, Sligo and Tullamore hospitals were dealing with 3 and 2 covid positive patients respectively.

Mullingar Hospital has seen no change when compared to last week with 5 people currently admitted to the facility with Covid.

Portiuncula is the only local hospital to see covid levels drop in the last 7 days, with 2 patients currently receiving treatment with the virus in Ballinasloe, compared to 4 last week.
