Covid levels begin to drop across the Shannonside region

A local electoral area in Waterford has the highest rate of Covid-19 in the country, while Leitrim has the lowest.

Covid-19 transmission is down across the Shannonside region this week.

Updated figures from the HSE's Covid Hub show all but one local electoral area in the region has a 14-day incidence rate below the national average of 1,365.

The Athlone LEA in Roscommon is the only area in the region today reporting a 14-day incidence above the national average, with local levels at 1,566.

In Roscommon LEA, there were 211 new cases in the last fortnight, resulting in an incidence rate of 928.

While the Boyle MD has a rate of 1,067 from 233 recent cases.

Ballymahon Municipal District is reporting an incidence rate of 1,349 this morning compared to 1,589 last week.

In the Longford LEA, figures have remained somewhat static, at 1,047, while the Granard area has one of the lowest figures in the region at 665.

In Leitrim, the Carrick on Shannon and Ballinamore local electoral areas are seeing incidence rates of 1,285 and 1,195 respectively.

While the Manorhamilton Municipal District has the lowest levels nationwide this week, with 55 new cases leaving an incidence rate of 508.

Across the board, municipal districts in all three counties are reporting static or reduced levels of the virus, with over 1,500 new cases in the last 14 days.
