Covid-19 hospitalisations quadruple locally this month

Nationally, the health service is dealing with 721 people with Covid in hospitals according to the latest HSE figures.

Positive cases of Covid-19 in hospital across the Shannonside region have quadrupled since the start of the month.

According to the latest figures from the HSE, there are currently 113 people being treated for or with Covid in local hospitals compared to just 27 on the 1st of June.

UHG is recording the highest level of patients in Covid wards at 53, significantly up from figures in early June where 13 people were confirmed covid positive in the hospital.

That's followed by Sligo University Hospital where 18 people have been diagnosed with the virus, with the facility now reporting an outbreak on site within two wards.

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinsloe is also dealing with increased levels of covid positive patients, as 17 patients have tested positive, compared to 3 people four weeks ago.

The Midlands Regional Hospitals in Tullamore and Mullingar are reporting 17 and 8 patients in their respective covid wards.
