Counting of votes in both referendums will get underway at count centers around the country at 9 this the morning.

Results are expected some time this afternoon or late this evening. The low turnout will be of concern to Government, and most of the Opposition parties which have backed ‘Yes' in both referendums. Both referendums relate to Article 41 of the Irish Constitution, and deal with the family unit and the provision of care.
Some 86,000 people have been added to the electoral register since the start of the year, bringing the total number of eligible voters to almost 3.5 million. Citizens living on the islands for the first time got to vote on the same day as the rest of the country - following changes made in 2022. Counting will get under way at 9 this morning with two separate declarations of the results, expected in the afternoon or evening.
