Four different sites will be investigated for ground works by the successful tenderer.

Longford County Council is advertising for a firm to carry out significant survey works at the former Connolly Barracks site in the town.

Tender documents reveal that the local authority is seeking information on the suitability of the site to bear foundations as well as the ground conditions for services.

According to the documents on the e-tender website, Longford County Council is seeking a specialised firm to carry out site investigations and topographical surveys at a number of locations in the Great Water Street, Connolly Barracks and Abbeycartron areas of Longford town.

The largest site is a 22,000 square metre area to the west of the Longford Shopping centre adjacent to the River Camlin including the helicopter pad at the former Connolly Barracks - with another two sites on Great Water Street to the rear of the Council offices on Rue Noyal Chatillon and the current County Council offices.

Testing at an 8,000 square metre vacant site beside the Council office car park is also being surveyed.

The Council claims it is seeking a firm to carry out a very detailed survey including a full topographical survey of roads, footpaths and buildings, levels and a minimum of 4 trial pits are to be excavated on each site to a depth of 3 m to establish the soil profile and ground water.
