Following the works, A yield sign had remained in place on the footpath, but was removed over the weekend.

Longford County Council is to liaise with local Gardaí over reports of dangerous driving at a newly laid out junction in the town.

The local authority has moved to clarity traffic management plans at the entrance into Mastertech Business Park on the N63 Athlone road.

When upgrade works to the road were complete after Christmas, markings delineating a yellow box were put in the former slip road into the industrial estate, which also leads to a major housing development.

According to the local authority, the deceleration lane is no longer in place and vehicles should not drive on yellow hatch markings.

However, motorists are still using the former slip road, which is causing many near-collisions for motorists who are making the turn at the junction itself.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound News, Longford County Council says they will review the location to determine if further improvement works are required.
