Councillor Warnock believes these projects are vital for the town.

Longford County Council is delaying and procrastinating when it comes to major regeneration and infrastructure projects in the town.

Those are the claims of Councillor Gerry Warnock, who believes the local authority is letting flagship projects in the county town flounder in favour of smaller rural projects.

The town based councillor has raised concerns over the delays to the Longford Connects Programme, which would see significant enhancements to the public realm at Market Square and The Shopping Centre.

According to Councillor Warnock, the council had promised significant work would be complete by May following the contract signing last November.

However, at this month's meeting of Longford Municipal District, members were informed of further delays to the first stages of the works.

This led the independent councillor to, in his own words, 'walk out of a meeting for the first time in 11 years.'
