The appointed design team in conjunction with third party specialists on behalf of the HSE have conducted further site assessments.

A local Senator fears the progression of the new sacred heart unit in Roscommon may be delayed due to a potential impact on some habitats.

Planning permission was lodged in May 2022 for the new 50 bed development at the nursing unit on the Golf Links Road.

It's understood an expert environmental report has been carried out and found a potential moderate risk to bats in the area.

Senator Murphy claims its findings suggest a possible interference with the flight of the bat. The application is currently in progress and a decision from Roscommon County Council is due on 21st November 2022.

The Fianna Fail representative hopes the project can continue as planned.

''I understand there is some delay in the project because apparently the HSE were requested by somebody in the housing department to carry out a special study in terms of the possible interference with the flight of the bat, as to where this building might go. So I understand at this stage now the HSE has carried out that and I just hope that that decision will be in favour of the project going ahead.''
