Local Councillor welcomes compromise on Carrick pedestrianisation plans

Last Friday a stand-off, lasting almost three hours, developed after traders prevented the installation of bollards at 6pm as part of the Council's car free zone plans

Carrick-on-Shannon councillor Finola Armstrong McGuire is welcoming an agreement between the council and traders on the pedestrian plan for part of Main Street.

The Fine Gael councillor who's also a trader on the street says it's been unfortunate that the plans to close off part of the street to cars at the weekend has led to some division among people.

The local councillor says she hopes the compromise of only closing the street from Saturday afternoon will suit most people.

She also says she's happy the whole situation can be reviewed again in just a few weeks' time:
