Edgeworthstown in County Longford and Boyle in County Roscommon have some of the highest number of vacant outlets in the country.

A GeoDirectory commercial buildings report has found that some towns across the Shannonside region have double the national average of empty commercial units.

The new report on commercial vacancy rates has found the towns of Edgeworthstown in County Longford and Boyle in County Roscommon have some of the highest number of vacant outlets in the country.

Edgeworthstown had the highest commercial rate in Longford at 28.4%, the third highest rate in the country. This rate compares to just over 20% for Longford Town.

Boyle had the highest commercial rate in the county of Roscommon at 27.7% and the 4th highest vacancy rates in the country. While Roscommon town has a rate of just under 22%.

In Leitrim, the vacancy rate in Carrick-on-Shannon was 16.6%. The average rate across the county of Leitrim is 16.9%.

The commercial vacancy rates across the Shannonside region was much higher than the national average of 14.0%.

According to the report the commercial vacancy rate in Ireland hit a ten year high of 14.0%, the highest level recorded by GeoDirectory since the report began in 2013.
The report found that commercial vacancies increased in 18 out of 26 counties.
