Close to 6,000 people unemployed locally last month

Unemployment numbers in the Shannonside Region have fallen slightly over the course of the last year.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show a total of 5,816 people on the live register last month.

That's a drop of just 142 people from unemployment supports in the previous 12 months.

Roscommon had the highest level of people receiving unemployment payments in March 2024 at 2,038, followed very closely by Longford at 2,032.

While Leitrim had 1,746 people on the register last month.

634 people in the region on unemployment supports were under the age of 25, compared to 667 this time last year.

Nationally, 173,400 people were on the Live Register in March of 2024.
