Cause of major electricity outage on Roscommon-Longford border revealed

A fire on an electricity pole was responsible for a major power outrage on the Roscommon-Longford border last night.

3,800 customers were affected by the outage reported at around 5.50pm last night in the Ballyleague, Lanesboro and Rooskey areas.

The ESB has confirmed that the outage was caused by a fire on an electricity pole and subsequent tripping of back-feed supply, with ESB Networks crews immediately going on-site to safeguard and repair the infrastructure.

The outage commenced at 5.50pm with all customers having their power restored by 8.20pm.

ESB Networks says it is currently investigating how the incident occurred and apologises to all customers impacted by this outage.
